Quarterback Tony Romo is in doubt for the elimination game of the week 14 of the Dallas Cowboys against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported that Romo has a herniated disc in his back, according to a source. It is believed that the injury will eventually require surgery, but it is too early to know if the actual state. Head coach of the Cowboys, Jason Garrett, not yet rule out Romo for the game against the Eagles.
“He’s been getting treatment all day,” Garrett said. “It will continue to receive it and evaluate it on a daily basis. Will see what his status for Wednesday next week.”
The source of Rapoport believes it is “unlikely” that Romo plays. The winner of the game between the Eagles and Cowboys will win the NFC East is the third consecutive year that the Cowboys have an elimination game in Week 17. Kyle Orton would be the starter at quarterback if Romo cannot play, but Garrett refused to rule out Romo for the rest of the season when you are stressed about it.
“Again, we are evaluating what happened in the game,” Garrett said. “Obviously, he could play with it and playing really well at the end of that game. This was assessed last night after the game and again this morning. Taking treatment and MRI is part of the evaluation. Going to be a number different things to do in your treatment in the coming days and we will see that such answers to them. “
Before talking Garrett, Desmond Purnell NFL Network reported that Romo and linebacker Sean Lee the rest of the season would be lost. If Romo does not play, will be a blow to a consistent season and would be a strong blow to the playoff hopes of Dallas. Orton is one of the best-paying stocks in the NFL, but the Cowboys offense may have to score more than 40 points to keep in step with the rapid Philadelphia offense.
The severity of the injury Romo is surprising since the quarterback was able to complete the game where they beat the Washington Redskins. The injury appeared to occur with little over eleven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter on a third-down pass to Miles Austin. Romo led the Cowboys to ten unanswered points after injury, including the game-winning touchdown in their last offensive series. Romo was able to meet with the media after the game.
Garrett said the Cowboys will sign another quarterback this week. The team has only had two quarterbacks on the active roster after the Cleveland Browns Alex Tanney recently signed to the practice squad of Dallas.
There are two divisions to be decided in singles matches in the week 17: The East and the NFC North. Romo’s health and the quarterback of the Green Bay Packers, Aaron Rodgers dominate the news at halftime.
