MIAMI – The state attorney will not press charges of domestic violence against George Zimmerman after his girlfriend manifested in an affidavit that he did not want to continue with the case against former neighborhood vigilante.
Phil Archer, Seminole County State Attorney in Florida, said Wednesday in a statement that the decision not to cooperate Samantha Scheibe and lack of other evidence to corroborate that it continued to hinder the process.
Zimmerman has faced charges of aggravated assault and property offenses following an incident on November 18 in a house he shared with Scheibe in central Florida. At first she told police that Zimmerman pointed a gun in his face, and then retracted in an affidavit filed this week.
In the middle of last year, Zimmerman was acquitted for the murder of black teenager Trayvon Martin. The case sparked a national debate on race and the law of self-defense.
