Explosion in Texas
Incident in an oil well
Two people were killed and nine others injured after an oil well in Loving County, in southwest Texas, exploded due to pressure buildup, officials said.
The Loving County Sheriff Billy Hopper, told reporters that the death of the two oil workers, whose names have not been released, was produced at the site of the explosion.
Hopper said he was unaware the extent of the injuries of the other nine employees who were injured.
Police received an emergency call around 08:30 local time (14:30 GMT) to warn of the explosion, which occurred about 100 miles southeast of the community of Carlsbad, New Mexico.
The sheriff said that according to initial reports, workers were using heavy machinery to change the wellhead.
“These wellheads are extremely heavy pieces of equipment,” Hopper, who said they can weigh over 500 kilograms said.
The explosion occurred in one of the most remote areas of Texas, in the southwest of the state, near the border with New Mexico.
